The Four Drinks Your Body Needs this September

We get it. Water’s boring, and as much as we try jazzing it up (see our fruit infused water recipes), sometimes Adam’s Ale just doesn’t quite cut it. Luckily, here are four great alternatives, which not only taste great, but (without mentioning any names) won’t make your pennies look brand new overnight, either!

1. On your way out – Up&Go

No time for breakfast? We’ve heard it all before and frankly there’s no excuse, but if you really can’t set your alarm five minutes earlier, then let us introduce Up&Go  - a new drink which is basically breakfast in liquid form, with as much fibre, protein and calcium as your average bowl of cereal!

Made from wholegrain oats, and available in six different flavours, Up&Go is the perfect breakfast for those rushing out of the door. In fact, it is the number one breakfast of choice in Australia (the brand’s home country). They must be busy people, indeed!

2. For your morning pick-me-up – Beanies Flavoured Coffee

Admit it. Your caramel macchiato has become a bit of a habit, even though you initially promised yourself that it was just a one off. And though there’s nothing wrong with forking out between three and four pounds every morning for a coffee, your average flavoured latte contains approximately 150 calories!

Beanies flavoured coffee, on the other hand, is available in nine different flavours, including ‘Amaretto Almond’ (our favourite!) and ‘Cinnamon Hazelnut,’ and contains a mere two calories per cup! Just to put that into perspective, for every 1 coffee shop latte you drink, you could have 75 cups of Beanies, though we wouldn’t recommend it! And just how it works is actually rather ingenious. By stimulating your olfactory senses (i.e. your nose!) it tricks your brain into thinking the drink is a lot sweeter than it actually is. You could even say it’s in-bean-nious, but you probably shouldn’t...

3. With your lunch – TreeVitalise Birch Water

Picture the Carpathian Mountains in Western Ukraine. Things already sound pure, right? Well, the process begins when the snow melts in the spring and the roots of the birch trees absorb the new water. This water is then drawn up into the trunk and branches, all the while enriched with nutrients that have been stored in the tree over winter, and then naturally filtered by the tree as sap. You couldn’t make it sound more natural if you tried!

The pure, freshly sweet tasting water carries naturally occurring antioxidants, electrolytes, amino acids, enzymes and unique micronutrients, while the range is 100% natural, undiluted and unsweetened. And at just 10 calories per bottle, it might be high time you...branched out.

4. Before your evening gym sesh - BEET IT Sport Nitrate 3000

Skipping the gym after work is almost as sacrilegious as skipping breakfast. Almost. Luckily we’ve already sorted the latter, so now it’s time to do the same for the former - Introducing BEET IT Nitrate 3000, and yes, it definitely deserves its highly scientific sounding name.

BEET IT contains seven 35ml portions of concentrated beetroot juice (100% natural), allowing sports people to top up their nitrate levels as required, and can be added to water, porridge and even cooked with to make it more palatable. The nitrate interacts with enzymes in saliva to generate nitric oxide in the blood system, which is a vasodilator that increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles, thereby boosting strength and endurance. Now, if only there was a relevant catchy pop song to accompany the commercial...

So there you have it. Four amazing drinks, each with their own distinct health benefits, to break up the monotony of drinking water all day long. Let us know below which one most appeals to you, or if you’ve discovered any other nutritional drinks this month!
