So, does Slendertone actually work?

It’s an age old question. And when we say age old, we mean approximately fifty years, as that’s when the first Slendertone belt became available. Nevertheless, it’s certainly a valid question, and one we hope to answer today....

The short answer is ‘yes, it does,’ but perhaps not in the way people initially think. Although a twenty minute Slendertone ‘sesh’ is approximately equivalent to 120 abdominal crunches, it will not help you lose weight, and is not a replacement for normal exercise. Instead, it helps to ‘tone, firm and build’ your muscles, and, with variety of devices available, each designed to target a different part of your body, it can help to do just that, whether it’s your abs, glutes, biceps, or face. Yes, your face.

As they say, there is no such thing as a free lunch.  Likewise, there is no quick fix when it comes to weight loss, and as such, it’s probably a good thing that there isn’t such a thing as a free lunch. That said, the Slendertone technology is clinically proven to help achieve more defined looking abs in just four weeks, when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and lifestyle. In fact, strap it on, and it’s surprising just how positive you suddenly feel about sitting down in front of the television for half an hour; What’s that, honey? Can’t you see I'm working out...!?!?

So, how does it work?

Slendertone uses Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) toning technology to create strong, deep muscle contractions, in a way that mimics the body's natural muscle movements; signals from the gel pads switch on the nerves that control your muscles, causing them to simultaneously contract and then relax, in a natural way similar to that experienced during normal exercise.

Unlike other ‘ab belts,’ the patented technology used by Slendertone is the only one able to exercise all of your abdominal muscles.  Not only does it target the muscles you can see (or not see, as the case may currently be!), but also the muscles that are more difficult to reach through the use of conventional exercise. The rectus abdominis (more commonly known as ‘abs’), the obliques (which shape the waist) and the transversus abdominis are all activated. This last muscle is the deepest of the abdominal muscles and wraps around the abdomen like a corset. It is essential for stability in the lower back region and is very difficult to reach with conventional exercise.

So, what’s the verdict?

We had a member of the Be An Athlete team test out the Slendertone Premium Abs Belt for a month. He used it five times a week, as an additional step to his usual fitness routine, and could confidently report firmer abs by the end of the month. In fact, he even ordered additional pads, with a view to continue using the belt going forward! #DedicationToTheCause

Now it’s your turn; have you or do you use a Slendertone product? What were your results? Could you be convinced to give one a go? Let us know in the comment box below, and if you’re looking for the perfect lounge-wear to slip into during your Slendertone session (for what might just be the most comfortable workout EVER), might we suggest a pair of the ultra soft Be An Athlete shorts?

  2. There is huge controversy regarding the use of the slendertone belt for gaining toned abs. There are people on both sides of the spectrum who argue for and against the use of the belt. From my personal experience, I can vouch for the integrity of the slendertone belt. Frankly speaking, I do regular workouts and also use the belt for getting optimum results. What I have learned from my experience is that if you want to see great results, then you have to combine the use of the slendertone belt with your workouts. Moreover, eating a healthy diet is also very important to get those strong abs.
